Portrait of Gala

Dali created this work under the inspiration of his beloved Gala. Dali was completely absorbed into his love for his Russian beauty, his Galuchka as he called her. They had been inseprable since they met in the summer of 1929, when Gala had been the wife of French poet Paul Eluard. Gala had been muse to Eluard, and other Surrealists, but now she was Dali's. He often credited her with saving him from utter insanity.
