Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man
(1943)
Oil on canvas
18 x 20 1/2 inches
It's title, and subject are fairly straightforward, and unobscured
by Surreal contradictions. It is easy to see the emerging man
rising from the young nation, America, thus signifying the importance
that Dali associated with his home in exile. Also important however,
are the third world countries symbolized by the enlargement of
the continent of Africa. The androgynous figure points to an area
of Europe near where Dali himself was born. A smaller figure crouches at the feet of the other, watching the scene, this is the Geopoliticus Child mentioned in the title.
