Valazquez Painting the Infanta Margarita with the Lights and Shadows of His Own Glory
(1958)
Oil on canvas
60 1/2 x 36 1/4 inches
This work is Dali's interpretation of Velzquez's Infanta
painting, and the young girl is shown in a clearly
divisionist's perspective in the upper center portion of the
painting. Rather than being destructive in nature, the
viewer should learn to think of Dali's divisionist's objects
as being creative in nature. In other words, rather than
viewing the objects as exploding or even imploding, the
viewer should see them as being in the act of creation,
or coming together.
